Gossip Sucks.

(Copyright Gospel Communications International, Inc - www.reverendfun.com)

In a small town, gossip seems to be the town pasttime. When it comes to the church, it has to stop. I don't think the gossips realize how much they hurt people with their running commentary.

I heard from (so and so) that (so and so) is going through (such and such). Isn't that horrible? I'm glad I'm not like that... Can't we all just get along?

Yes, we can all get along, as long as we help those who do gossip NOT to gossip, and not to pass it along any further than our own ears.

Well put!

Sadly the church often cofuses gossip with "prayer needs".

I grew up in a small town much like yours, maybe a little bigger, but not much. Anyway, when I moved started to miss the small town atmosphere, until I returned to have several people question me about the circumstances of my leaving. Aparently, I had angered a parent of a girl that I was dating, when I returned her home late one evening. Little did ANY of these people know, I not only had NEVER dated any of the girls in question. I had been off to college for 6 years and not part of the town rumor mill. I pray that you can begin to change the town's attitude toward gossip. God Bless!

gossip is a hard thing in small towns...but you should read Kathleen Norris on HOLY GOSSIP. Very interesting perspective. I think it is in the book Dakota.
