The Boy Loves the Beach

You might remember that we just went on vacation to Lake Michigan. Well, what you probably don't know is that I don't like sand. It's not that I don't like the beach or the water or anything like that, and I actually enjoy making sand castles (as long as nobody's grading them, because mine usually aren't that aesthetically pleasing -- maybe that's why I enjoy making them very near to the tide).

But I do not like sand. It gets everywhere, especially in the waistband of my shorts. I can't stand it! And the other thing is, it gets on my feet. You might be saying, "DUH" because of course it gets on the feet of someone walking on the beach. But the problem is: it doesn't come off! You can rinse the rest of you in the water, but there's going to be sand on your feet by the time you get off the beach. Maybe it's just sensory issues, but I cannot stand to have sand in my shoes/sandals. The little man doesn't care for that either. But he doesn't mind having sand everywhere else. What can I say? The boy loves the beach, or his "big sandbox" as he refers to it. Posted by Picasa

I'm a sand-hater, too! I can't stand that it follows you everywhere and never comes off. Yuck!

Awwwwwwwwwww Maaaaaaaaaaannnnnnn! Sand is the neatest! You can do so much with it. It feels great being so warm and squishy on your feet. And comes in so nicely on the carpet where it never comes off.

Yuck to sand here as well, though if you DON'T get your feet wet you have a better chance of getting it off your toes (and out from between them).

One time in Hawaii we were out on the beach in the evening, and wouldn't it be nice and romantic to stroll barefoot along the beach... except for all these teensy tiny little crabs or whatever they were, and I didn't want to step on them, and ... ugh...

I hate sand. And the beach during the day in the summer. I much prefer it at night!

Hermit crabs... are what crawl across the beach in Hawaii I believe. We have them everywhere in Florida. There is actually an island; I can’t remember where that when they migrate you should just stay inside. Everything is covered with them; I’m talking millions of them everywhere!

On another note, I have not seen the beaches or waves of Lake Michigan in quite some time. In fact I have not been there to visit family in almost as long. I remember when we would came at the state park and the times my Grandpa would take me to the shores of Grand Haven and the waves would crash around me.

What part did you visit?

We were down in the south west corner, in Harbert (north of New Buffalo). T's uncle has a really nice place in a private neighborhood up there, and it's only a short walk to the beach.
